Albuquerque Passes DOP Resolution

A big leap forward was made in the Department of Peace and Non-Violence Campaign in District 1, Albuquerque. today. City Councilor Ray Garduno ( District 6) was asked to endorse and present to the City Council of Albuquerque a resolution in favor of a “Us Department of Peace and Non-Violence. He gladly agreed. His comments were “How can you say No to Peace”. Of coarse we all agreed. We touched on the benefits of having a department of peace and how groups and organizations that are creating non-violent solutions in New Mexico can finally be funded through a Federal “Office of Peace” in the the Administrative Branch of the Government.

We were not meeting with him to ask for money. We were offering Albuquerque funds for sorely needed programs, for instance, Domestic Abuse PREVENTION, Restorative Justice Programs to root out Crime and Violence BEFORE it happens. Moneys to deal with Gangs and Drugs. It was really clear to all of us that PRISON is not working, if anything it’s creating generations of criminals.

He stated he wished more community groups with initiatives that have solutions to the issues in his district and the community of Albuquerque would come to him. He said its The Community that put him in office and he is there to serve and make Albuquerque a great place to live for everyone.Thank you so much Councilor Garduno for your time and your sponsoring this resolution

I also want to thank Patty, Leslie and Maria for sharing from their hearts about violence in our communities and spending their time discussing how a Department of Peace could be a solution.

Please come join us in the process of getting this resolution passed in Albuquerque. There is much to be done.This is just the first step.A great way to help this process, is to attend the City Council meetings when the resolution is being discussed.Bring your Friends, Neighbors and Family too. This shows the other councilors that it has support in the community and we are assisting Councilor Garduno in is efforts.

This is an exciting time for the Department of Peace in New Mexico.

• I want to thank “Stop the War Machine ” for organizing a very successful and educational gathering and march exposing “The Military Industrial Complex” this Saturday in Albuquerque. It was very informative and frightening at the same time. UNM and the military it seems are making space weapons.This event was not a march against the war, it was an educational series to possibly prevent the development of these very frightening weapons that are to be used in space wars. Some very interesting facts about Albuquerque, NM is that we come in 3rd place as the most nuclear weaponized place on earth.We are the leaders in the development of space research,having the first space port on earth. We also are developing weapons that are to be launched in space. The Department of Peace and Non-Violence effectively addresses this issue.

Expert from the Bill to create a “Us Department of Peace and Non-Violence”

(b) Responsibilities- The Assistant Secretary of Arms Control and Disarmament shall–

(1) advise the Secretary on all inter agency discussions and all international negotiations regarding the reduction and elimination of weapons of mass destruction throughout the world, including the dismantling of such weapons and the safe and secure storage of materials related thereto;

(2) assist nations, international agencies and nongovernmental organizations in assessing the locations of the buildup of nuclear arms;

(3) develop nonviolent strategies to deter the testing or use of offensive or defensive nuclear weapons, whether based on land, air, sea, or in outer space;

(4) serve as a depository for copies of all contracts, agreements, and treaties that deal with the reduction and elimination of nuclear weapons or the protection of outer space from militarization; and

(5) provide technical support and legal assistance for the implementation of such agreements.

SEC. 109. OFFICE OF PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE AND NONVIOLENT CONFLICT RESOLUTION.

I guess the question for America is do we really want to open this can of worms? I mean, can’t we find pleasure first in our relations with space and be in awe of what might exist out there, instead of wanting to build weapons to destroy?I believe this is for the entire nation to have a conversation about. New Mexico is the land of Enchantment. Its where the Ancient and the Modern worlds meet, there are things happening here that as a global community we all need to be making decisions about.We as Americans have not held back the use of our deadly inventions thus far.I think we have effectively learned that the biggest bully on the street doesn’t always win. In War games, nobody wins. It brings pain and suffering to a world so incredibly wonderful.We are killing each other and destroying our home. I so pray, that as my friend David Hazen says…” A Department of Peace lives in Everyones heart! Please, look into yours and find that department and make it manifest on the planet we call earth.

Its a New Year and it being a 1 year , 2008 2+8=10 , 1+0=1 , It is also the year of New Beginnings.

This Blog for the Department of Peace and Non-Violence will also start a New Beginning. It is my hope that we as a “Peace Community” will start to lead this country. I know Peace too be as powerful as any Army on earth. Gandhi taught us this. Jesus taught us this , Martin Luther King Jr. taught us this , John Lennon taught us this , and the many who remain nameless, taught us this.The Hippies as a movement taught us this. . Since peace is More Powerful than any Army on Earth, it must be considered as the tool of choice for the issues that are facing America today.These issues are Climate Change, The Military Industrial Complex , The Prison Industrial complex, Corruption run rampant in local, state and federal government, The economy, Our relations with the rest of the planet, Mass extinctions of species and their habitats , The corporate controlled media. This United States of America is in big trouble. No amount of money will address these issues, this is a “Matter of the Heart”. .Peace really is an inside job, and once you are on the path, service and the promotion of justice become the clear mission statement.
